Week 4

G'day all

I hope you had a good weekend. Did any of you take part in Clean Up Australia yesterday?

There were some very good suggestions on the Wallwisher last week for improving your Reading Skills. Well done!

Today's Wallwisher tips are for improving your conversation skills! Have a look at my suggestions and try to add to the list!

Can you remember some things from your childhood? What did you get up to? Did you like to dress up? Were you naughty? Were you ever teased? Were you ever grounded? Did you giggle a lot? Did you ever run away from home? What did you want to be when you grew up? Watch and listen to Daniele and Ryan tell some anecdotes from their childhoods. (Daniele has an English accent and Ryan's accent is American). Use the questions on the sheets to help you understand.

You have to go through my Moodle to access the video. When you click on the link, you will be asked to enrol in the Moodle. Ask me for the enrolment key so that you can do this. Here is the link for the Moodle and the video is Topic 16.

Hope you have fun with this! When you've finished the worksheets, you can hand them to me to check for you. Then, as further practice for summary writing, you can write a summary on the blog or write an anecdote of your own! Too much? Well do what you can! It's all practice for English!

Have a good week and happy blogging!

Week 3

G'day all

I hope you've had a good weekend and that you didn't get caught in Saturday's wild weather!

How about a quick memory test? Last week you saw a video which suggested 23 things you could read!

Have a look at this wallwisher and post a sticky with either your own suggestion for what you could read or use one from the video! First in, best dressed, because you're NOT to repeat a suggestion made on the wallwisher so READ what your classmates post before posting your suggestion!

When you've finished with this you can spend a few minutes getting up to date with the activities of the last 2 weeks if you haven't done so.

You may or may not know that next Sunday is Clean Up Australia Day. What is Clean Up Australia? Who started it and why? Who can be involved? How do you become involved? What do you have to bring with you? Where do you go? What's happening in your local area? Is there a clean-up activity happening there?

To find the answers to these and other questions, I'd like you to do an internet search for Clean Up Australia. I'd like you to find at least 3 sources of (print) information/references about the event. Include one newspaper reference! Then write up a summary of the topic which answers the questions I posed earlier and any other relevant information. Remember to include the references to the sites you used.

You are to show me a draft of your work which can be handwritten or typed but NOT PLAGIARISED!!!! DO NOT COPY CHUNKS OF TEXT.

Well, that should keep you busy for a little while!

Happy blogging!

Week 2

G'day!
I hope you've all had a beaut weekend. I must say I was stoked to see the sun out again as it meant that I got the washing dried! There's nothing worse than wet washing!
Well, this arvo there are a few things for you to do.
Firstly, finish writing up your first blog post and get me to have a gander at it before you publish it.
Secondly, work out the meaning of the words/expressions in bold!
Thirdly, have a look at this link and write a comment at the end of this post about the message the speaker wants you to remember! (There are also very useful YouTube links on the right with suggestions for increasing fluency in speaking too!)
Then, open this link and look at the first 2 videos. (One-minute video and Isabel's story) When you've done this, come and tell me the 'message' you learnt from the second video. If you have time you can try the entry level tests!
And to finish off, read this text and answer the comprehension questions. Tell me your score!
Before you go, have a look at this refreshing short film which was awarded 2nd place in the 2013 Sydney Tropfest last night!

Well, hope you complete all today's activities!
'Aveagoodweek and keep blogging!

Welcome to 2013

G'day all

Welcome to our online classroom! Here you will do activites of a varied nature every week. You'll practise different English skills as part of your course. You may be reading, writing, listening or even practising pronunciation! We'll even try to post some audio or video online too! Most of all, I hope you learn something and have some FUN whilst doing it!

Today, I'd like each of you to create your own blog! It's really easy! All you need is an email address to get started! To begin, just click on the Blogger icon on the top left of this page and follow the prompts to create a blog! Please ask me if you're not sure what to do! Good luck!

When you've done that you can post some information about yourself! You can add things about where you come from, what brought you to Australia, what your hope and dreams are etc. You can even add links and photos to make your text more interesting! Ask me how!!!

When you've done that you can work on the following activity.

As you know Thursday is Valentine's Day. Do you know the origin of this day? Is it celebrated in your country? If you are in a relationship will you celebrate this event? What will you do for your partner or him/her for you? What was the most romantic Valentine's Day you've had so far? Do you think it is good to celebrate this day?  To help you answer these and other questions, try the webquest activities from the worksheet I've given you.

While you can answer the questions on the sheet, you'll need to present your final work on your blog. Here's what to do, write a short post in your blog summarising the history of St Valentine's Day and then in another paragraph give your opinion of the event!
Good luck and happy blogging!
